Jaime González
Jaime Gabriel González is a skilled luthier who graduated with honors from the Escuela de Laudería in Querétaro, Mexico. Following his education, he opened his own shop in Guadalajara, where he began to refine his craft. In 2017, Jaime further honed his skills by taking an "Antique Varnish and Retouch" class with the renowned luthier Pablo Alfaro. This experience opened doors for him to attend various prestigious events in the United States, many of which were sponsored by the Violin Society of America, Oberlin Restoration Workshops, Southern Violin Association Spring Workshops, and Learning Trade Secrets. Inspired by the high level of craftsmanship he encountered, Jaime became deeply passionate about elevating his own work to the highest standard. This passion led him to seek opportunities to relocate to the United States to immerse himself in the world of top-tier violin making. In 2022, he joined the workshop at Carriage House Violins.
Jaime’s instruments have earned recognition at several prominent competitions. Notably, he won gold medals for both viola and violin workmanship, as well as the Bill Barnitz Award at the 2023 Violin Makers Association of Arizona International Competition.
Additionally he received a workmanship Gold Medal for violin at the 2019 at the Southern Violin Association Competition and he earned the invitation to be a judge for the following competition edition in 2021.
Jaime also collaborated with fellow luthier Pablo Alfaro to create a quartet that was entered in the 2022 Violin Society of America competition in Anaheim.
