Marinos Glitsos
Marinos Glitsos is a maker of violins, violas, and cellos based in Saint Paul, Minnesota.
As a lifelong musician, he studied the cello and holds a degree in music performance in addition to his training as a luthier.
Marinos was fortunate to begin his training as an apprentice to internationally renowned lute maker Daniel Larson. It was here that he was first introduced to violin making and developed the foundation of his tool skills.
After serving a two-year apprenticeship in Larson's shop, Marinos attended the prestigious Violin Making School of America, where he studied under award-winning violin maker Sanghoon Lee.
Upon graduating from violin making school, Marinos was invited to spend the next two years working alongside luthier John Waddle, where he worked directly with some of the finest examples of both historical and contemporary instruments.
During this time, he was involved in ongoing CT research conducted by radiologist Dr. Steve Sirr, who pioneered the use of CT scanning in the study of fine violins.
Marinos was then asked to join esteemed luthier and restorer Peter Bingen at the Paul A. Schmitt Violin Shop, where he provided expert setup and tonal adjustments for more than five years.
Marinos has since dedicated his energy solely to the construction of new violins, violas, and cellos, which he creates in his Saint Paul workshop.
