Viateur Roy
Born in Quebec-Canada, Viateur ROY spent much time in the forest and from 12 to 18, he was driving the sawmill at the family business. His father, Gaëtan gave him education to observe trees and the wood itself. In parallel, his mother, Stella, orientate education in a musical way at Les Petits Chanteurs de Trois-Rivières (Pueri Cantores)-Québec-Canada. At this time his ears begin to be impregnate of sound culture under the direction of Monseigneur Claude Thompson and Paul-André Bellefeuille.
When he was teenager, he shows a real interest in woodworking in all its forms at the National Furniture Making School. He learned marquetry, sculpture and introduced to varnish. After this school, where he got the Canadian Governor medal, he has been specialised in staircase making and drawing. He learned these skills under the French artisanal knowledge of Alain Guillon, Jean-Pierre Plessix and Pierre Grolleau.
Naturally he joined all these experiences by entering at the National Violin Making School of Mirecourt, where he graduated successfully.
When he left school, he became M Robin’s assistant in Angers-France for nearly 10 years. M. Robin is recognize as “Maître d’Art” from French Culture Governement.
Viateur taught part of his knowledge with trainees and scroll sculpture teaching over the years.
On the strength of this experience, he established himself as quartet instruments maker. His inspiration is the combination of classical instruments study, M Robin’s workshop experience, François Denis drawing works, exchanges with colleagues from Angers and around the world through the filter he is to express his personality in his making.
Last September 2023 to June 2024 he taught is knowledge at the National Violin Making School of Mirecourt, France. He will shared the second year class with Marie Tournoux and Etienne Bélanger.
